The neighborhoods of Baltimore are our most cherished resource, and our effort to promote the vibrancy of these areas ensures a higher quality of life for all Baltimoreans. Indeed, my commitment to public safety and education can be seen as a commitment to our neighborhoods. In short, my mission is to make government work where we live, i.e., in our neighborhoods.
- I secured funding for the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative, allowing the program to expand into more communities and assist homeowners and homebuyers revitalize communities on the edge of instability.
- My Public Nuisance legislation targets inconsiderate neighbors, and holds property owners accountable for tenants who violate City noise ordinances.
- I created the Community Restoration program that allows City homeowners in “healthy” neighborhoods to renovate and restore their homes, thus increasing property values and making more energy efficient.
- I fast tracked the Inclusionary Housing legislation recently passed through the Council, because affordable housing is not something Baltimore can afford to wait for. I have also encouraged the Housing Commissioner to use his authority to issue grants from the Affordable Housing offset fund for the purchase and renovation of the City’s vacant houses.
